The joys of printed matter

Just when we were feeling the burn of a New Year’s Eve shift (equal parts busy and quiet), Rich and I were treated to the sight oif eight boxes bearing the Diamond logo being wheeled into our humble emporium. Bleh, did I type emporium? Sorry, bit of a lapse into being quirky. Sorry. Eight boxes of unexpected goodness had been delivered, and thus the afternon became a whirl of unpacking, checking, pricing displaying and then filling spaces as the new stuff was bought. Thankfully those eight boxes were full of decent titles that people are wanting more of, and it is most heartening that the titles that visitors are seeking out are some of the best that have been published.

The most obvious example right now is WATCHMEN. We’ve been singing it’s praises for years now, and finally everyone and their mothers seems to be taking note. The art may have dated, but the writing has seen it transcend fashions in the comic industry and become something of a benchmark by which everything else is compared. It’s so nice to see people snapping up something of such quality. Plus, the new batch of copies we got in look fantastic lined up on the shelves. Not long until the film now… as long as Fox stop being so foolish and just let WB put the thing out.
